Outre cette activit\u00e9 de loisir, le Liban pratique une p\u00eache artisanale le long de ses 210\u00a0km de c\u00f4tes o\u00f9 s\u2019\u00e9gr\u00e8nent de nombreux petits ports. Malgr\u00e9 la concurrence turque (la Turquie capture 30\u00a0% des\u00a01,3\u00a0million de\u00a0tonnes de poisson pr\u00e9lev\u00e9es chaque ann\u00e9e en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e), la p\u00eache garde un important r\u00f4le social et culturel au Liban. \u00c0 la diff\u00e9rence de l\u2019Atlantique nord, le secteur artisanal est largement d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 sur le pourtour m\u00e9diterran\u00e9en\u00a0; en atteste la composition de la flotte, qui compte 85\u00a0%\u00a0d\u2019unit\u00e9s de p\u00eache c\u00f4ti\u00e8re pour\u00a010\u00a0% de chalutiers et 3\u00a0% de senneurs. Plusieurs esp\u00e8ces commerciales (merlus, soles, bars, baudroies) sont cependant exploit\u00e9es au-del\u00e0 de leurs capacit\u00e9s naturelles de renouvellement. De r\u00e9cents accords internationaux t\u00e9moignent des efforts entrepris pour am\u00e9liorer la gestion conjointe des ressources halieutiques de la
