Importante r\u00e9gion d\u2019extraction marbri\u00e8re, le Rajasthan est r\u00e9put\u00e9 pour la qualit\u00e9 et la diversit\u00e9 de ses marbres. Le terme \u00ab marbre \u00bb d\u00e9signe de mani\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9rique des roches faciles \u00e0 fa\u00e7onner. Le plus souvent, il s\u2019agit de calcaires compacts extraits de carri\u00e8res \u00e0 ciel ouvert. Les variations et les nuances de couleurs du marbre sont dues \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019autres min\u00e9raux dans la roche. Le marbre est un mat\u00e9riau prestigieux qui sert depuis l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9 aux constructions humaines dont les plus connues sont le Taj Mahal et le Parth\u00e9non. Au Rajasthan, d\u2019o\u00f9 provient 90 % de la production indienne, l\u2019extraction du marbre entra\u00eene de graves probl\u00e8mes environnementaux. En 2002, \u00e0 la suite d\u2019une d\u00e9cision de justice, la fermeture de pr\u00e8s de 600 mines avait \u00e9t\u00e9 envisag\u00e9e, car elles endommageaient l\u2019environnement, mais cette fermeture a \u00e9t\u00e9 emp\u00each\u00e9e en appel. N\u00e9anmoins toute nouvelle ouverture de mine est d\u00e9sormais interdite. Cette r\u00e9gion souffre de la s\u00e9cheresse et du ch\u00f4mage, or la d\u00e9coupe et le polissage du marbre, qui emploie pr\u00e8s de 100 000 personnes, capte une grande part des faibles r\u00e9serves des nappes phr\u00e9atiques. Dans le district de Kishangarh, 2 millions de fermiers doivent acheter de l\u2019eau \u00e0 des fournisseurs priv\u00e9s car les r\u00e9serves hydriques sont insuffisantes. De plus, la poussi\u00e8re engendr\u00e9e par l\u2019extraction et la coupe du marbre recouvre les terres, rendant plus difficiles les activit\u00e9s agricoles et la p\u00e9n\u00e9tration de la pluie dans le sol.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
